Statement of commissioners of Board of Health of Baltinglass and Stratford on Slaney, County Wicklow, sworn 23 June 1819, concerning John Lyons of Griffinstown, County Wicklow, contagious with fever. Commissioners state that they have used their powers to issue a warrant ordering him to be placed in fever hospital at Stratford on Slaney, to avoid the spread of the disease to his family and neighbours. Statement of commissioners of Board of Health of Baltinglass and Stratford on Slaney, County Wicklow, sworn 24 May 1819, concerning John Lyons of County Wicklow, who is contagious with fever. Commissioners state that they have used their powers to issue a warrant ordering him to be placed in fever hospital at Stratford on Slaney, to avoid the spread of the disease to his family and neighbours. Notes that this is the first time they have had to exert their authority in this way and that 'all the Relations of the Patient, with the exception of his Mother, are anxious for his removal'. Letter from John Lapp Judkin, court house, Clonmel, County Tipperary, secretary to County Tipperary grand jury, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 29 July 1823, concerning the several barony constables recommended by the grand jury to receive a government pension, and requesting an answer on their case as quickly as possible. Encloses a letter from Francis Aldborough Prittie, MP for County Tipperary and foreman of the County Tipperary grand jury at summer assizes 1823, to [Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle], enclosing a return of the names of the 13 constables recommended for superannuation, accompanied by certificates for several of the men [none present]. Also note by John Sealy Townsend, KC and legal advisor to Chief Secretary's Office, stating his opinion on the matter, and noting that, 'There cannot be a more disagreeable office than the examination of the cases of these poor constables, I make no doubt that a pension given to any one of them would be well bestowed, but this is not left to my judgement…..', 6 August 1823. |
