Letter from Maj George Warburton, Inspector General of Police, Ennis, [County Clare], to Edward Geoffrey Smith Stanley, Chief Secretary, enclosing the petition of Judy Fitzpatrick, widow, Ballagh, County Clare, to Henry William Paget, Lord Lieutenant, requesting the interference of government in securing the return of her horse from the police barrack of Ennistymon; explaining that the animal was taken by force and her dwelling door damaged by Andrew O’Loughlin and James O’Loughlin, on the night they robbed James Peaton [or Pealon] of Ardmore; emphasising the importance of her horse in supporting her family. Also enclosing report from Henry Townsend, Chief Constable, Ennistymon, to Warburton, observing that part of the stolen property was found at the house of Judy Fitzpatrick and two of her sons were implicated as being part of the party responsible for the robbery; concluding that the horse was sold by command of the magistrates. |

Letter from Maj George Warburton, Inspector General of Police, [Castletown], to Lieutenant Colonel Sir William Gosset, Under Secretary, referring to an application for leave of absence from the chief constable at Ennistymon in County Clare and suggesting it receive ‘favourable consideration’. Enclosing letter from Henry Townsend, Chief Constable, Ennistymon, to Warburton, requesting leave of absence for a period of one month to commence from the 9th of August; pointing out that his previous application in October last was interrupted on account of growing outrage and he was obliged to return to his station; explaining that in such a short time he was unable to complete an arrangements for a mortgage with William Long on a piece of property; noting his district is now in tranquil state and it appears it will remain so. |
