Includes letters from: Mullen to magistrate James Blacker, Henry Street Police Office, forwarding certificate signed by c10 magistrates in testament to his character, and containing statement by Daniel Dunn, 32 Charles Street, swearing that he was a witness to the incident in question, that Farrell was intoxicated, and that Mullen only struck him in self defence. Memorial of Daniel Molone, [?Ballyvartla], Scariff, County Clare, to the Lords Justices of Ireland, complaining that Patrick O’Brien of Granacraggy, who was married to his daughter Mary Malone, has turned her and her family out. Claiming that in order to disinherit his wife and children, O’Brien has levelled his own house and fraudulently signed his land over to his brother Darby O’Brien. Seeking police protection in order to recover possessions which he has successfully sued for. SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Copy of report by John Killaly, civil engineer, Tullamore, [Kings County or County Offaly] on the construction of piers of Belmullet, Sleen and Blacksod in County Mayo, at the behest of the Commissioners of the Irish Fisheries. Explaining the reasons behind the non-ideal choice of location of the piers including Belmullet pier which was insisted on by Mr Cater, the proprietor of the town who refused to contribute to the works. Enclosing a map [extant] of Blacksod Bay depicting location of roads, settlements, piers, a signal tower and Bingham Castle, sketched by Killaly from a map prepared by Capt Nugent, to the scale of two inches to one mile. Also copy of letter from Killaly, to Henry Townsend, suggesting that no more money be spent on Saleen pier as it may prove to be of little value to the public. Also covering letter from Townsend, Irish Fishery Office, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, noting that the funds available to the commissioners are totally insufficient and that when gentlemen object to the location of such works they should be aware that no contributions have been made by local individuals. Also draft letter from Gregory, to unspecified recipient, concluding that the ‘excuses made for road sites are very unsatisfactory’ and should revised. |

Also copy of memorandum by [Henry Prittie, 2nd Baron] Dunalley, Kilboy, [County Tipperary], agreeing to the lease of Knockderig Barrack, Glancolloo and enclosing a plan of the building at a scale of 20 feet to 1 inch noting its location in relation to the roads to Silvermines, Dolla and Newport.
