Covering note from Herbert Gillman, Woodbrook, County Cork, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 20 December 1822, enclosing petition of Gillman to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, concerning news of his removal as a magistrate for County Cork. Emphasises his services and conduct since receiving a commission of the peace in 1813, in particular during the disturbances in the county in 1821. Requests to be reinstated as a magistrate [20 December 1821]. Encloses copy of letter from Gillman sent to Charles Grant, former Chief Secretary, dated 21 July 1821, concerning the state of the county, and Gillman's efforts during a disturbance in the town of Dunmanway, County Cork. Also letter from Gillman to Goulburn, 22 December 1822, adding some additional matters, which he omitted from his petition, in relation to his role in preventing the spread of the 'Insurrectionary Spirit' which broke out in the south of Ireland in winter 1821. |

Details the benefits of such a bridge, including improved communications with the mountains to the north of Dunmanway, especially in the winter months. Petition signed by 12 individuals, 9 August 1822.
