Letter from Catherine Waiblinger, governess of the boarding school for young ladies at Gracehill, Ballymena, County Antrim, [Moravian Mission School, Gracehill], 'To the Benevolent', concerning the fate of a mother and her 5 children, who came begging at the school, and detailing the assistance given to them by the girls of the school and the local inhabitants of Gracehill. Reports that following the death of their mother, the 2 youngest children were taken in by their aunt, who has since abandoned the children back at the school. States that they are left 'destitute', and requests assistance for them. Statement certified by John Holmes, minister of the Moravian Church in Dublin. |

Letter from Reverend Richard Roe, 114 Grafton Street, Dublin, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, 22 December 1819, enclosing copy of petition of Roe to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, requesting government employment for one or both of his sons. States that in 29 years as a clergyman of the established church, he has not even held a curacy for most of that time, instead supporting his family through his work as a private tutor and as assistant secretary to the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin [December 1819]. Also encloses copy of printed pamphlet entitled, 'The Principles of Rhythm, both in speech and music; especially as exhibited in the mechanism of English Verse', by Reverend Richard Roe [1819]. Roe informs Grant that although his proposed publication, '…has been abandoned for want of encouragement..', he has submitted it in support of his petition, in the hope of demonstrating that, 'my necessities do not constitute the whole of my pretensions'. Also includes returns prepared by the commissioners detailing the different categories of schools under their jurisdiction, and the annual revenue generated by each. Report 1: Classical Schools of Royal Foundation, including Armagh, County Armagh; Banagher, King’s County [County Offaly]; Cavan, County Cavan; Dungannon, County Tyrone; Enniskillen, County Fermanagh; and Raphoe, County Donegal. Report 2: Existing Diocesan Schools, including Ardagh; Clogher; Cloyne; Cork; Londonderry; Down; Elphin; Ferns; Kildare; Limerick; Leighlin; Meath; Ossory; and Ross.
