Letter from Rear Admiral John Colville, 9th Lord Colville of Culross, commander on the coast of Ireland, onboard HMS 'Semiramis', Cork harbour, to Henry Goulburn, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, concerning the difficulty for revenue cruisers in obtaining a supply of fresh water at Kingstown [Dunleary; Dún Laoghaire] harbour, County Dublin, 9 June 1823; encloses copy extract of letter from Captain Charles Malcolm, of His Majesty's yacht 'William and Mary', at Kingstown, to Colville, concerning the lack of provision for fresh water, and his unsuccessful requests to the harbour's commissioners to remedy the problem, originally dated 7 June 1823. Concerns an attack on his home in Aughrim by an armed banditti in 1822, and the abduction of his sister for several weeks, resulting in the family being forced to leave the area, and sell up their cattle 'at a very low price'.

File of papers relating to imprisonment of men for attack on home of Patrick Heagney, County Galway. Includes letter from Major Thomas D'Arcy, chief police magistrate for County Galway, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, referring to 2 alleged attacks on the home of Heagney, resulting in D'Arcy's arrest of some of those involved, 19 June 1823; encloses copies of 2 sworn informations respecting the attacks [none present]. File also includes petition of Michael Hayes, John Hayes, James Egan, Patrick Egan senior, Patrick Egan junior, Walter Costelloe, and John Egan, of parishes of Ballinakill [Ballynakill] and Clonrush, County Galway, but imprisoned in Galway jail, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, complaining of their imprisonment for Ribbonism, based on the testimony of Patrick Heganey [sic], and requesting bail; they deny the charges and attribute Heganey's antagonism to a familial dispute, 24 June 1823. 2 copies of printed poster entitled 'Caution', issued by the magistrates assembled at the general session of the peace in Belfast, 10 July 1823, referring to violent scenes at gatherings of 'Riotous and Tumultuous Mobs' in Belfast on and around the 12 July each year, and warning 'against the repetition of such Outrages, as the most decisive measures will be resorted to, for suppressing the same..'.
