TITLE:

Petition of George Tully, concerning money owed by commissioners of excise

SCOPE & CONTENT:

Petition of George Tully of Dunmore, County Galway, formerly assessor of taxes for district of Foxford, to Earl Talbot, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting Talbot's intervention with the commissioners of excise, to secure remuneration for work carried out by Tully in assessing Foxford walk, Foxford, in 1819. Also refers to an error committed by his clerk, which resulted in Tully's suspension in 1820, 25 July 1821. Also letter from LJ Tully, 19 College Green, Dublin, to Earl Talbot, requesting government relief to support his family, November 1821; and letter from LJ Tully to Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, referring to an earlier petition of Tully to Earl Talbot, and reiterating his request for relief, 19 December 1821. Annotation on reverse by Earl Talbot, states that he does not recollect this individual. [It would appear that the CSO clerk may have mistakenly gathered the wrong petition, to show Earl Talbot, mixing up 2 entirely separate cases, one relating to George Tully and another relating to LJ Tully]
