Letter from Poole Gabbett, Limerick, County Limerick, treasurer of County Limerick, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 12 August 1823, enclosing letter from George Massy, foreman of the grand jury of County Limerick, to Gregory, requesting government interference to reduce the burden of a presentment made to the grand jury, to pay the cost of the fees of the King's Council and assistant barristers who have attended special sessions in the county since the re-enactment of the insurrection act. Emphasises that 'it will occasion considerable distress if the whole amount be now levied' on the county, 2 August 1823. Gabbett's letter contains subsequent annotations by Gregory; Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, and by William Conyngham Plunket, Attorney General, on the subject. |

Evans states that Griffith refuses to release the money found in the robbers' possession, and requests government assistance to reclaim it. Refers to the murder of her husband, George Walsh, as he 'was going to work in Mr. Doolan's [sic; Walter Doolin] Timber Yard on Batchelor's Walk [sic; Bachelor's Walk], in Dublin. Requests government relief for her family's support. Studdert offers his support for the application, noting in his covering letter that, 'Her Husband was the innocent victim of an infuriated Mob who were assembled for the purposes of Combination and lost his life in the defence of the person and property of his Employer'. |
