SCOPE & CONTENT: |
Copy of petition of the trustees of the southern division of the turnpike road leading from Dundalk, County Louth, to Banbridge, County Down, to Richard Wellesley, 1st marquis Wellesley, Lord Lieutenant, Dublin Castle, requesting government funds to carry out alterations and repairs to the road, in order to improve the conveyance of northern mails, and provide employment to the labouring poor. Describes the trustees' financial arrangements, concerning proceeds of tolls from the road, and the terms of the mail coach legislation. Petition originally signed by Robert Thomson, Neale McNeill, Gervais Finley, and FW Fortescue, trustees, Dundalk, 3 June 1822 and numbered 'No.1'. Also copy of letter from Mr Page, Dundalk, to William Gregory, Under Secretary, Dublin Castle, 5 June 1822, enclosing above petition; this letter numbered 'No.2]'; and copy of letter from Mr Page to Gregory, requesting an answer to the petition, 12 August 1822; this letter is numbered 'No.3'. |

File of papers relating to the Irish Registry Bill [Registry of Deeds (Ireland) Act 1822, 3 Geo 4 c. 116]. Includes notes respecting clauses of the legislation, concerning the payment of stamp duties on the registry of deeds. These notes are marked A, B, C, D, and E. Also includes copy of statement originally signed by 11 firms of London solicitors, acting for the landed proprietors in Ireland, stating that the Irish Registry Bill currently before parliament, 'will effect an Object of manifest Utility, in as much as to supersede the necessity of transmitting Deeds from England to Ireland for the purpose of being registered at the same time', and thereby offering convenience and security to all those in England, requiring to register deeds in Ireland' [1822]. Also includes printed copy of 'An Act for the better Examination of Witnesses in the Courts of Enquiry in Ireland; and for empowering the Courts of Law and Equity in Ireland to grant Commissioners for taking Affidavits in all Parts of Great Britain, 11 July 1815. |
