SCOPE & CONTENT:

Letter from Major Samson Carter, McVille, Marino, Dublin, to Charles Grant, Chief Secretary, Dublin Castle, giving his opinion on information received by Chief Secretary's Office, and forwarded to Carter, respecting the disturbed state of parish of Dunnamanagh, parish of Donaghedy, County Tyrone. Samson advises government to establish a police force in the area. Encloses and returns letter from James Sinclair, 34 Blessington Street, Dublin, to [Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle], with enclosures, [November 1821], concerning an attack on, and threats made against, Reverend Andrew Hamilton, rector of parish of Donaghedy, respecting the collection of tithes, and includes a copy of a threatening note attached to the tail of Hamilton's horse [November 1821]. Also copy of the information of John Narney of the first revenue police corps, reporting an attack on him by armed men, near Silverbrook, County Tyrone, sworn before William Webb, chief magistrate at Silverbrook, 11 November 1821.
