Baker claims to have served the military with loyalty during the period 1795 to 1798, and apprehended the ‘notorious Fryar Phillips who then stood charg’d with having sworn several thousand of the Inhabitants of the counties of Sligo, Roscommon and Mayo, to join the French forces on their Landing in this Kingdom’; also states that he apprehended ‘the noted rebel Denis Conway, with several others of inferior rank all of whom were subsequently either hang’d or transported’; mentions that due to his ‘exertions to keep the peace’ in his native county, his dwelling house was burned and other losses suffered; with supporting testimonials. |
